Equine-facilitated Learning
Ages 8+
No prior horse experience necessary
The intention of the sessions is to practice relationship-building & horse communication influenced by the Resnick Method of Liberty Horsemanship. There is no riding. Sessions are 1:1 and are tailored to the individual needs, age and goals of the participant.
Equine-facilitated Learning (EFL) sessions are designed to provide activities to promote self-awareness and wellness practices. Using the unique abilities of horses and their natural herd dynamics, participants experience mindfulness, responsibility, boundary setting, and effective communication. Horses give us immediate feedback about our verbal and non-verbal communication of emotions and behaviors, and an EFL session is designed to help a participant become a caring and confident partner with a horse. This is a heart-led horsemanship practice that can have therapeutic benefits or a good foundation before going on to a traditional riding program. EFL programs can be a one-time offering, span 3-9 sessions, or be on-going as needed.
Learning skills and activities may include, but are not limited to: equine body language and non-verbal communication, herd observation and dynamics, haltering and quiet leading, working at liberty {in a paddock}, hand grazing, ground work exercises, boundaries with the horse, horsemanship fundamentals, barn maintenance, horse massage, nature walk, grooming, parts of the horse, feeding and nutrition, basic first aid and daily care. EAL does not include mounted work with horses.
EFL helps better connect with ourselves, and can be particularly helpful with: Horse owners, caregivers, students with ADD/ADHD, insecurities, lack of motivation, and social anxiety. Some benefits can include: Improved strength, feel more peace, confidence, self-esteem, and social skills, stress tolerance, working cooperatively, problem solving, emotional regulation, creativity, just to name a few. Just being around the presence of horses can enhance quality of life for many people.
*Please note, this is NOT a therapy session and we are not offering treatment for any diagnosis or disorder.
